Who is responsible for this site, and what happens to data when you read it.
Responsible for the content
Named in accordance with § 18(2) of the German Medienstaatsvertrag (MStV). This is a private website; it is not a commercial undertaking within the meaning of § 5 DDG.

Nature of the site
A private, non-commercial research and documentation project on very old Tokaji. There is no advertising, no paywall, no paid service and no trade in wine or bottles; the site generates no income of any kind. The services described under Services are given free in exchange for permission to document and research what turns up.
Liability for content and links
The pages report research in progress. Attributions, datings and readings are the author’s own conclusions from the evidence available, they are not expert opinions or certificates, and they are corrected as the work advances. Nothing here is advice on buying or selling, and no warranty is given as to the authenticity, condition or value of any object shown.
External links were checked when they were made. Responsibility for the content of linked pages rests with their operators; they are not monitored continuously.
Privacy
The short version: this site collects as little as it can. There is no advertising and nothing is sold here, so nothing about you is of commercial interest and nothing is passed on for gain. There is no visitor statistic, no advertising network and no cookie of any kind. What little data is processed, and why, is set out below.
Server logs
The hosting provider, Cloudflare Pages (Cloudflare, Inc.), records the usual technical data when a page is requested: IP address, time, the file requested, browser and operating system, and the referring page. This is necessary to deliver the site and to keep it secure (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), and the records are kept only as long as the provider needs them for delivery and security, then deleted.
Visitor statistics and cookies
This site runs no analytics and sets no cookies. Nothing is stored in your browser, nothing is counted, and there is no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to.
Typefaces
The pages are set in Cinzel, Spectral and Archivo Narrow. These are currently requested from Google Fonts, which means your IP address is transmitted to Google when a page loads. Hosting the three font files on this server removes that transmission entirely, and is the intended solution.
Embedded and linked media
Some pages link to talks and recordings on YouTube and to catalogue entries at archives and libraries. Following such a link takes you to the operator’s own site, under its own privacy terms. Video is linked rather than embedded, so nothing is loaded from those services until you click.
Writing to me
If you write about a bottle, a cellar or a document, your message and address are used to answer you and, where the matter becomes part of the research, kept with the file on that object. They are not passed to anyone else and never used for anything else. Ask and they will be deleted.
Your rights
You may ask what data is held about you, and ask for it to be corrected or deleted, or object to its processing (Art. 15–21 GDPR). Write to the address above. You may also complain to the data-protection authority of your state.
