01

Vintage quality, 1783 to 2024

Each cell carries the year and its rating. Years shown with a gold frame have a bottle presented on this site; hover or tap the year to see which bottle, and follow the link to its section.

02

Before 1783

The rated series begins in 1783. For the older vintages the documents give no consistent quality judgement, but bottles of eighteen of those years are presented on this site.

How to read the ratings

The ratings are compiled from the documents in this collection — cellar books, price lists, harvest reports and correspondence — and they describe the aszú harvest of the year, not any single bottle. A poor year in the table does not disqualify a bottle of that vintage, and an exceptional year is no guarantee of a sound one; storage decides more than weather. Where sources disagreed the more cautious reading was taken.

The examination of bottles is described on the Bottle examination page, and the archive work behind these ratings on the Research page.
